Active participation by the physiotherapy department of the Centre des Maladies du sein Deschênes-Fabia in establishing an inter-hospital network for lymphedema.

Description

The prevention and management of lymphedema, one of the major complications following breast cancer surgery, poses a particular challenge to hospitals. Establishing an inter-hospital network helps to improve service offer by defining best practices for the prevention and treatment of lymphedema in Quebec. The investment of the Foundation allows one therapist at the Centre des Maladies du sein Deschênes-Fabia de l’Hôpital Saint-Sacrement de Québec to focus on the prevention of lymphedema and its treatment.

In three years, more than 1,000 sessions of physiotherapy were given to patients affected by breast cancer.

Service is maintained at the CHU de Québec.
