Set up an oncogenetic resources centre to provide support and education to families at risk of developing breast cancer.
The risk of developing breast cancer can be as high as 85% in some women carriers of a gene mutation (BRCA1 or 2) that could be passed on to their children. Women with a suspected or confirmed mutation are faced with having to make difficult choices about their health. Le Centre ROSE is integrated in the Centre des maladies du sein Deschênes-Fabia du Saint-Sacrament du CHU de Québec, and aims to provide affected families with information and support tailored to their specific situation, to develop models of clinical intervention, and to train health professionals in other hospitals on family issues related to breast cancer.
The Centre ROSE offers seminars to the public at large on subjects related to hereditary breast cancer issues, support to families at risk, a documentation centre, and training for professionals.
Since 2015 Centre ROSE satellites are being set up in Montréal, the Bas-St-Laurent and the Saguenay to ensure that the services being developed are also developed in these regions.
