JGH Hope and Cope Wellness Centre
The Quebec Breast Cancer Foundation made a financial contribution to the implementation of clinical practices for screening, preventing and managing risks linked to brittle bones or bone metastases in women undergoing breast cancer treatment.
Considering that women undergoing breast cancer treatment are at a higher risk than the population at large of developing brittle bones and osteoporosis, the Hope and Cope Wellness Centre, in collaboration with the Segal Cancer Centre, both of the Jewish General Hospital, are working on improving clinical practices for screening, preventing and managing the risk of fractures linked to brittle bones and/or bone metastases in women undergoing breast cancer treatment. More specifically, the purpose of this project is to:
- implement an integrated care program based on scientific evidence for the systematic screening and management of bone health in women undergoing breast cancer treatment;
- develop multidisciplinary clinical expertise and promote exemplary professional oncological practices by proposing an innovative model of care that can be applied to all hospitals and clinics across the province and the country;
- raise awareness and inform affected women and survivors, health professionals, public decision makers and the population at large about the impact of breast cancer treatments on bone health and about treatments/lifestyle habits that could help avoid these side effects.
