FAQ

A peer supporter is a person who has been diagnosed with breast cancer. They use their experience and knowledge to support people affected by the disease. The peer supporters who answer callers to the Helpline receive professional training from the Quebec Breast Cancer Foundation.

Peer supporters offer active listening, guide callers through the healthcare system, refer them to appropriate resources, and provide general information about breast cancer, but this does not replace the advice of a health professional.

To talk to someone else who has been through this, you can join one of our online support communities: the Parlons cancer du sein and Club stade 4 private Facebook groups.

The peer supporters who answer the Helpline are located in the various regions of Quebec: Outaouais, Estrie, Montérégie, Montreal and Laval. The Helpline answers calls from all over Quebec.

Have you been diagnosed with breast cancer and want to get involved as a peer supporter? You can fill in the Volunteer application form.
