Each person deals with the news of a breast cancer diagnosis in their own way. Everyone can experience many changes in their daily lives, and feel worried or overwhelmed.
The Quebec Breast Cancer Foundation (QBCF) is pleased to present the sixth edition of the Journées santé mieux-être (Health & wellness days) in Sherbrooke, in collaboration with La Rose des vents. The aim of the day is to provide information and practical tools to help people better cope with the changes they are going through, and to improve their quality of life throughout the treatment process.

Theme : Getting your life back on track after a breast cancer diagnosis
Although prognoses are improving, living with breast cancer remains a major challenge, with often numerous and disabling impacts. A number of topics will be covered at this health & wellness day, with the aim of providing resources to help people adapt to the changes that occur throughout the various stages of their care journey. These include healthy lifestyle habits, complementary therapies, and strategies for relieving physical and emotional side-effects, while helping to reconcile illness, intimacy and family and work lives.

A breast cancer diagnosis is often accompanied by a heavy mental and emotional burden, with new concerns, decisions to make, appointments to manage, and adjustments to be made in various spheres of life. At the same time, brain fog can set in, leaving those affected feeling overwhelmed and out of their depth. The experts on this panel will explore the factors that contribute to this state and suggest strategies for coping and regaining balance.

People with breast cancer can find it difficult to cope with the physical changes caused by the disease and its treatment. These changes can impact self-esteem, as well as relationships with oneself and others. This panel will bring together professionals to discuss the impact of cancer on body image, the repercussions on intimacy, and the resources and solutions available to help people reclaim their bodies and regain a positive self-image.

1. Adapted yoga workshop on mat
In a warm and caring atmosphere, Carole Landry, oncology yoga teacher, will guide you as you discover the benefits of an adapted yoga practice. During this session, you’ll explore a series of postures that are accessible to everyone, designed to respect personal limits while promoting relaxation. Carole will also guide you through deep-relaxation techniques, ideal for releasing tension and improving the mind-body connection.

2. Skin care workshop – La Roche-Posay
After a brief introduction and discussion with special guest Lolitta Dandoy on the importance of adapted skin care, an experienced La Roche-Posay skincare instructor will guide you through a hands-on workshop. You will discover products specially designed for skin weakened by breast cancer treatment. You will also take home some welcome gifts when you take part in this workshop.

3. Living with metastatic breast cancer
This focus group facilitated by a social worker is a place for friendly discussion. It gives people affected by metastatic disease the opportunity to get together with other people who are on the same journey. They can share their experiences and the challenges of their daily lives with others who know what it is like to live with Stage 4 breast cancer.

1. Art therapy workshop
This introductory art therapy workshop led by a professional is an opportunity for you to give free rein to your imagination and explore the power of creativity to express and deepen self-knowledge. The practice of art therapy can help to restore self-esteem and body image, encouraging you to reclaim your body and feel good about yourself. No artistic skills are required.

2. Dance therapy workshop
Led by a duo of body-expression professionals, this introductory dance therapy workshop uses movement as a tool to enhance well-being, self-expression and self-esteem. Accessible and safe for everyone, this guided exploration aims to relax the body, release tension, and enable participants to take their place in space and within themselves, while relieving stress and letting go. No artistic skills are required.

3. Returning to work after a breast cancer diagnosis
In a society where productivity is highly valued, returning to work can be a worry for people who have had to take time off after a breast cancer diagnosis. This transition is not simply a return to “normality.” After experiencing the disease, it can raise expectations, doubts and fears, especially if the effects of the cancer are still present. This workshop will provide an opportunity to discuss the challenges involved in returning to work and will suggest tools to facilitate the process.
