My Active HealthTM is now an interprovincial program that brings together a team of researchers and health professionals dedicated to the breast cancer cause.
Implemented in the Atlantic Provinces since 2017, My Active HealthTM is a research project involving experts from the University of New Brunswick, Dalhousie University, Memorial University and the University of Prince Edward Island. Danielle Bouchard, Associate Professor of Kinesiology at the University of New Brunswick, is responsible of this program in this region.
Aimed at people affected by breast cancer, the program is offered over 12 weeks and designed with the goal of evaluating the short- and long-term benefits of physical activity for participants. To date, the project has:

Since 2019, My Active HealthTM has been collaborating with Daniel Santa Mina, Researcher and Professor in the Faculty of Kinesiology at the University of Toronto. The objective of Professor Daniel Santa Mina’s project and his team is to examine whether a structured exercise intervention was feasible in the prehab window, the period between the time of diagnosis and the time of breast cancer surgery. This approach calls pre-rehabilitation aims to optimize the patient’s physical condition in order to better cope with the treatments she will undergo and facilitate recovery.
UW WELL-FIT@HOME
UW WELL-FIT@HOME is a semi-supervised, home-based physical activity program for women with breast cancer developed by Caryl Russell (MSc. Kinesiology, R.Kin, Director of Programs) and the Fitness Team at the Centre for Community, Clinical and Applied Research Excellence (CCCARE) at the University of Waterloo. Accessible to all those who are cleared to exercise independently, regardless of fitness level, UW WELL-FIT@HOME offers a program adapted to each individual’s specific health and fitness needs and personal goals. This program provides participants with a fitness kit, behaviour modification strategies and exercise programming aimed to promote long-term engagement in physical activity and to enhance quality of life.
