LET’S FIGHT BREAST CANCER ONE TANK AT A TIME

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a month dedicated to raising awareness about the reality of breast cancer, and Ultramar have just launched their new campaign in aid of the Foundation aimed at fighting breast cancer. “We are dedicated to the cause because too many women are affected by breast cancer, unfortunately. It is estimated that over 6,500 new cases will be diagnosed during 2017,” explained Mario Sauvé, Vice President of retail sales, Parkland Fuel Corporation.

How can I take part?

Throughout the month of October, Ultramar will help you make a difference each time you visit one of their 479 service stations across Quebec!

Ultramar will donate $0.01 to the Breast Cancer Foundation for every litre of Supreme gasoline sold and $1 for each Supreme wash sold. You can also add donations of $1 or $5 to your bill. In addition, donation boxes will be placed inside stores to grow support

“Active Health,” a unique kinesiology and oncology program

This new program offered by the Foundation will be rolled out shortly thanks to Ultramar’s generous donation of $100,000 and also thanks to a portion of funds raised during this campaign.

The “Active Health” program is unique in that it will be the first program to use advances in research on the benefits of kinesiology to help women affected by or at risk of developing breast cancer. The program was built around the most recent scientific data and statistics.

The Foundation has called on the expertise of kinesiologist Myriam Filion to develop the program over the next few months. The program will then be deployed in and around Montreal, Quebec City and Gatineau and will be rolled out in the Maritimes and Ontario during the first year. The ultimate aim is to deploy the program on a national level and make it available in private clinics, certain Integrated University Health and Social Services Centres, non-profit organizations and hospital centres thanks to the collaboration of kinesiologists who will be trained.

Risks linked to breast cancer reduced thanks to kinesiology

Research has shown that kinesiology (physical activity adapted to each patient) can reduce the risks linked to breast cancer considerably. Indeed, 30 to 60 minutes of moderate physical activity per day can help to reduce the risk of developing breast cancer by about 25%. Physical activity brings about several benefits that markedly improve the quality of life of women undergoing treatments and can help to reduce the risk of recurrence by at least 30%.
