The Quebec Breast Cancer Foundation (QBCF) welcomes the Government of Quebec’s initiative to fully reimburse external breast prostheses for women who have undergone a total or partial mastectomy.
“This is a step in the right direction. This shows consideration for women affected by breast cancer.”, says Jida El Hajjar, Vice-President of Investment and Health Promotion at the QBCF.
Over a 24-month period, the amount refunded will be $425 per prosthesis for a total ablation and $250 per prosthesis for a partial mastectomy.
The QBCF offers a financial assistance program to support women affected during treatment as well as during their convalescence. This program already includes, since several years, a section for external breast prosthesis claims.
This announcement re-emphasizes the importance of supporting women affected. Financial insecurity is a substantial reality when one is diagnosed with breast cancer.
“This enhancement to the reimbursement program will allow women like me who have had a mastectomy to feel beautiful and whole again. This will help us regain our self-esteem. “, said Franca Palermo, Ambassador at the Quebec Breast Cancer Foundation.
