Saturday June 3rd, the Foundation’s first Forum took place where the biggest names in the field of medicine and breast cancer research united at la Maison Symphonique in Montreal to share their research on the latest technology and advances in treatment.
It was the first time that the public attended such an event, with a panel of experts in a lively exchange of information within the field of oncology. Over 210 people were present.
The report highlighted increasingly targeted treatments and more accessible clinical research protocols. The result is an increase of almost 88% in the five-year survival rates among people with cancer. Some of the most fascinating advances in the treatment of breast cancer were nanorobotics, artificial intelligence in the service of patients, and immunotherapy, a future-oriented approach, which uses the body itself to fight against cancer.
In Quebec, one in 8 women receive a breast cancer diagnosis every year. Their daily lives become disrupted in nearly every aspect. To bring them some comfort, the professionals made all their services and resources available, by educating the audience on everything from mental health, to physical fitness, to nutrition, to stress management. « I have the feeling that the Forum was tailored for me! », exclaimed Céline St-Denis, an ambassador of the Quebec Breast Cancer Foundation, in an interview with Mitsou Gélinas, the Foundation’s spokesperson. Evidently the whole point of the Forum; to create a bridge between science and people, and above all, to give hope to those who face this disease.
The next Forum will take place May 4th and 5th, 2018, at Palais des Congrès in Montreal and will offer more subjects and information to everyone affected by the disease.
