Research, support, awareness and education, outreach and engagement of minority communities, advocacy for patients’ rights: these are the Foundation’s five main priorities starting 2019!
The Foundation, the reference in research and innovation
“One of the Foundation’s greatest objectives is to make scientific, technological and medical innovation more quickly accessible for the benefit and with the greatest respect for patients,” said Nathalie Tremblay, Chief Executive Officer at the Quebec Breast Cancer Foundation.
To achieve this, in 2019, more than 50% of the Foundation’s investments will be in research and innovation in Quebec. We will continue to work with all Quebec and Canadian stakeholders to promote the emergence of best practices and maximize the impact of each dollar invested in Quebec.
Upcoming projects in which the Foundation is involved:
- Research competition to develop new therapies in the province of Quebec;
- Artificial intelligence in breast cancer to discover new biomarkers in medical imaging. The in-depth characterization of tumors is essential for the development of personalized therapies.
- Through the “Fonds de recherche du Québec-Santé” and the Cancer Research Society, we will support the young researchers’ community.
- Funding of operational infrastructure to advance basic and clinical research, including the biobank and the McPeak Sirois consortium.
For a better patient experience!
In 2019, the Foundation’s range of services will be expanded to improve the quality of life of patients and their families.
Be on the lookout!
- A support program for people with metastatic breast cancer will be developed;
- Group meetings will be held for young people whose parents are affected;
- The PAROLE-Onco program will be launched in Gaspesia;
- My Active Health will develop a mobile application that will be at the heart of a research project;
- Official launch of our yoga-onco program across the province;
- Resources in nutrition, kinesiology, sexology and psychology offered at the MUHC Breast Cancer Clinic.
These services will be in addition to existing ones, such as the psychological support line, the financial assistance program, the private Facebook group “Parlons cancer du sein”, among others.
